Kalamkari- Influenced by the Persian art, Kalamkari print is an ancient and generations old technique of block-printing on fabrics using vegetable dyes. Originating from a small town of Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, the name Kalamkari itself justifies the beauty of its art. Kalam is an arabic version of ‘pen’ and kari means ‘work’. This art of Kalamkari takes its inspiration from flora and fauna which is why it was also one of the most preferred piece of art for any dress and furnishing during British rule also. And the beauty of Kalamkari is still impeccable when compared to other modern fabric arts.
